Troops of 192 Battalion, Operation HADIN KAI, have intercepted a six-year-old girl suspected to be a family member of terrorists along the Gwoza–Limankara road in Borno State.
A military source told Zagazola Makama that the child, identified as Fatima Bulama, was intercepted at about 10:15 a.m. on August 8, 2026, by troops conducting picketing and farm patrol duties along the route.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl’s parents had taken her close to the base of the Mandara Mountains from a terrorist enclave in Kwatara, Gwoza Local Government Area.
According to the source, the girl disclosed that her parents instructed her to remain on the road, move towards the troops and tell them that she was escaping from the terrorists, while they stayed behind.
The child was subsequently screened and documented by the troops and is currently in the custody of 192 Battalion for further necessary action.
The development comes amid intensified military operations around the Mandara Mountains and other terrorist enclaves in the Gwoza axis as security forces continue efforts to disrupt terrorist networks and facilitate the safe recovery of persons held within insurgent-controlled areas.
