Troops of Sector 1, Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have intervened in a communal clash between members of the Idoma and Hausa communities in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops, deployed at Otukpo, responded at about 6:10 a.m. on July 14 following reports of violence at Ogobia community.
According to the sources, on arrival, the troops discovered that the clash was triggered by tensions arising from an earlier attack along the Otukpo–Nobi axis on July 12, during which two residents were reportedly killed, several others sustained injuries and properties were set ablaze.
The troops immediately moved to restore calm and prevent further escalation of the violence.
Victims who sustained injuries during the disturbances were evacuated to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, where they are receiving medical attention.
Military sources said security has been reinforced in the affected community, while efforts are ongoing in collaboration with relevant authorities and community leaders to prevent reprisals and maintain peace.
The intervention forms part of Operation WHIRL STROKE’s continued efforts to contain communal violence and protect lives and property across Benue State.
