Troops launch manhunt for herders after alleged destruction of farms in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have launched a manhunt for suspected herders following the alleged destruction of farmlands belonging to residents in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 9:00 a.m. on May 28 at Rewienko Village.
According to the sources, the troops of Sector 3 Operation Safe Haven responded to a distress call over the alleged destruction of crops belonging to Mr. Bitrus Pede and 15 other farmers.
The sources disclosed that on arrival at the scene, it was discovered that farmlands had been cut down with machetes by suspected herders.
They added that the affected crops were destroyed in what was described as a deliberate act of farm destruction in the area.
Efforts, according to the sources, are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
Security agencies have continued to intensify patrols in the area to prevent further escalation of tensions and maintain peace in Plateau State.
