Troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have launched a search operation following the rustling of 56 cattle belonging to a livestock owner in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Chugwi Village in the VOM District of Jos South LGA.
The sources said the rustled cattle belonged to one John Boyi.
Following a distress report, troops deployed at Gero immediately mobilised to the area and commenced search-and-rescue operations across the surrounding mountainous terrain in an effort to track down the rustlers and recover the stolen livestock.
However, no contact was established with the suspects during the operation.
Military sources said efforts were still ongoing to recover the rustled cattle and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
Security agencies have continued to intensify patrols and intelligence-driven operations across vulnerable communities to curb livestock theft and other violent crimes in the state.
