Troops mediate as 24 cows found grazing on farmland in Plateau

Troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace, have recovered 24 cows found grazing on a farmland belonging to a farmer in Exland Village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Sept. 4, 2026, when troops of Sub-Sector 41, deployed at Exland Guard location, responded to a report of farmland destruction involving the farm of Mr Samuel Danjuma.
On arrival at the location, the troops intercepted 24 cows grazing on the farmland, while the herder reportedly fled after sighting the security personnel.
The livestock were moved to a safe location, while the owner of the cattle, identified as Mr Abdulqadir Ibrahim of Waru, Exland Village, was invited by the troops.
Following discussions, both parties agreed that the cattle owner would provide a bag of maize on Sept. 7 as compensation for the damage allegedly caused to the farmland.
The cattle owner also signed an undertaking before the 24 cows were released to him in the presence of community leaders.
The intervention prevented further escalation and provided a peaceful resolution to the dispute between the farmer and livestock owner.
