Troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN have neutralised three suspected bandits and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a clearance operation in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
This is contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Nigerian Army.
The statement said the operation was conducted on May 31 at about 2:20 p.m. following credible intelligence on the presence of criminal elements at hideouts along the fringes of Pinau village.
“Troops of 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN conducted offensive operations in the general area of Road Pinau–Gimbi in Wase LGA, Plateau State,” the statement said.
“During the operation, the troops made contact with the criminals and engaged them in a firefight. Superior firepower from the troops forced the criminals to flee in disarray.”
The Army confirmed that three of the bandits were neutralised during the engagement, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds, as indicated by blood trails along their escape routes.
Troops recovered one AK-47 rifle and a magazine from the scene, which are currently in military custody for further action.
The Army added that follow-up operations are ongoing to track and intercept the fleeing criminals.
It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations to rid Plateau and surrounding areas of criminal elements threatening peace and security
