Troops of 152 Task Force Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI have neutralised a suspected JAS/ISWAP spy during a night patrol along the Banki border perimeter fence in Borno State.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred when troops deployed at A17 axis observed suspicious movement within the Cameroonian border approach towards Banki town.
According to the sources, the suspect was sighted attempting to scale the perimeter fence allegedly to monitor troop activities in the area.
“The individual was observed jumping the border fence from the Cameroonian axis towards Banki town in what appeared to be an attempt to gather intelligence on troop movements,” the sources said.
The troops reportedly engaged the suspect, who was neutralised during the operation.
The sources added that following the incident, troops conducted a sweeping operation of the general area in search of other suspected terrorists, but no further contact was made.
Security officials said monitoring and surveillance operations have been intensified along the border corridor to prevent infiltration and espionage activities by terrorist elements.
They further noted that the overall security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, while troop morale and operational effectiveness remain satisfactory.
