Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered a cache of locally fabricated firearms and motorcycles during a raid operation in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Military sources disclosed that the operation was carried out on June 4 by troops of 63 Brigade Garrison following credible intelligence on suspected criminal activities around the Ibusa Community Police Office.
According to the sources, the troops swiftly deployed to the area and conducted a raid within the general vicinity to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the location for unlawful activities.
During the operation, security personnel recovered five locally made Dane guns, one fabricated pump-action firearm and three motorcycles.
The recovered items were found abandoned within the premises of the community police office, which had previously been occupied by local vigilante personnel.
Military authorities said preliminary investigations had commenced to determine the ownership and possible use of the recovered weapons and motorcycles.
The sources noted that intelligence exploitation and collaboration with relevant security stakeholders would be undertaken to establish whether the items were linked to any criminal activities within the area.
The recovered firearms and motorcycles have been taken into custody pending the outcome of investigations.
Security agencies have continued to intensify efforts to identify and remove illegal weapons from circulation as part of broader measures aimed at enhancing public safety and combating criminality across Delta State and other parts of the country.
