Troops of 171 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Daura, have recovered six locally made pistols following a clash between herders and farmers at Babban Mutum, Baure Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. on October 27, 2026, when troops responded to the clash to prevent a possible breakdown of law and order.
Preliminary findings revealed that the clash was triggered by the alleged destruction of crops and farmlands by cattle belonging to herders, leading to an altercation between the herders and local farmers.
During the confrontation, some residents reportedly sustained injuries from arrows allegedly fired by the herders.
Following the incident, troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, deployed to the affected communities and conducted patrols to reassure residents of their safety.
The troops subsequently conducted cordon-and-search operations in areas suspected to be occupied by criminal herders, during which six locally made pistols were recovered.
The recovered weapons were handed over to the Nigeria Police, Baure Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and necessary action.
