Troops Repel ISWAP Attack on Borno Community, Recover Terrorists’ Equipment

Troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion have repelled an attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on Kurnari Community in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, recovering ammunition, communication equipment and other items abandoned by the fleeing insurgents.
Security sources said the terrorists launched the attack at about 3:30 a.m. on June 30, prompting troops to swiftly respond to distress calls from the community.
The sources said the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to abandon the attack and flee the area.
Following the successful engagement, the troops conducted exploitation of the area and recovered 28 rounds of 7.62mm x 54mm PKT ammunition, one handheld radio, one weapon cleaning rod, two head warmers, three locally made explosives, a 50cl can of weapon cleaning oil, one empty RPG bomb charger casing, one neck strap and the sum of ₦5,000.
The recovered items are in military custody for further investigation and exploitation.
Security sources said the operation forms part of ongoing offensive efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to deny terrorists freedom of action and prevent attacks on vulnerable communities across the North-East.
They added that troops remain on aggressive clearance operations to track down the fleeing terrorists and sustain pressure on insurgent hideouts in the area.
