Troops of 114 Battalion (Motorised), under Operation Hadin Kai, have successfully repelled a fresh attack by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists on their location in Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the terrorists launched the attack late on Saturday night from the troops defensive position.

“The troops engaged the attackers in a sustained firefight and successfully repelled them,” the source said.

No casualties were recorded on the part of the troops, while one terrorist was neutralised and one AK-47 rifle was recovered.

The Commander of 26 Task Force Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Nura Abdullahi, on Sunday visited the troops in Bitta to assess the security situation, boost morale, and commend their gallantry.

Similarly, the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander, Sector 1 of Operation Hadin Kai, Brig.-Gen. U.V. Unachukwu, visited the brigade headquarters and held a briefing with the commander, the commanding officer of 114 Battalion, and frontline troops.

He directed the immediate mobilisation of personnel to strengthen the defensive posture of the battalion and resume full operational duties.

Zagazola  gathered that due to the recurring attacks in the area, many civilians from Bitta have relocated to Gwoza town for safety.

While the general security situation around Bitta remains calm, it is said to be highly unpredictable.
