Troops of 1 Brigade, Combat Team 6, have rescued 13 kidnapped victims along Gwashi Road in Bukuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State following a coordinated military operation in the area.
Security sources told Zagazola that the victims were intercepted at about 0715 hours on May 10, 2026, by troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gwashi during ongoing clearance operations.
The sources said preliminary findings indicated that the victims escaped from captivity following a recent air interdiction conducted west of Bagega Forest, which disrupted terrorist hideouts in the area.
According to the sources, the rescued persons stated that they were indigenes of Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State and had been held captive for several months before the opportunity to escape arose during the chaos caused by the air operation.
Military authorities said the victims are currently receiving preliminary care and profiling, while arrangements are underway to reunite them with their families.
They added that troops have intensified patrols and exploitation operations within the general area to track fleeing terrorists and prevent re-establishment of criminal enclaves in the forest axis.
