Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued a kidnapped victim during a swift response operation along a highway in Benue State.
Security sources told Zagazola that the incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on April 20 along the Olojo–Ojantelle road in Apa Local Government Area.
The troops, deployed under Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke, and operating from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ugbokpo, responded to a distress call concerning kidnapping activities along the axis.
According to the sources, the patrol team arrived at the scene and discovered an abandoned vehicle, indicating that the kidnappers had fled upon sighting advancing troops.
The victim was found unhurt and immediately rescued by the troops.
Military sources added that both the rescued victim and the recovered vehicle were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force in Ugbokpo Division for further investigation and necessary action.
Authorities said the swift intervention prevented the abductors from escaping with the victim and reaffirmed the ongoing commitment of security forces to secure highways and vulnerable communities across the state.
The Nigerian Army assured residents of continued patrols and intelligence-driven operations to curb kidnapping and related crimes in the region.
