Troops of 144 Battalion under Operation UDO KA have uncovered sacks of suspected stolen crude oil concealed in a swamp in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
Security sources said the discovery was made at about 7:00 a.m. on April 17 during an anti-illegal bunkering operation conducted by troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Owaza.
The troops reportedly found the sacks hidden in a swamp at TGE Creek within the Imo River axis in Uzuaku community.
The items are believed to be part of illegally siphoned crude oil stored by suspected oil thieves.
Military authorities said the recovered items were handled in line with operational directives on anti-bunkering activities.
They added that troops would sustain ongoing operations to curb crude oil theft and protect critical national assets in the region.
