Violence erupts at Emir’s Palace in Kano, one woman commits suicide in a separate incident

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed two separate incidents involving a violent attack at the Emir’s Palace and the suspected suicide of a 25-year-old woman in the state.

 

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the first incident occurred on Sunday, July 6, at about 1:00 p.m., when the entourage of His Royal Highness Aminu Ado Bayero was passing through the Kofar Kudu area near the Emir’s Palace.

 

According to the report, hoodlums suspected to have infiltrated the crowd launched an attack by hurling stones at the gate of the rival palace.

 

The attack led to the destruction of two motorcycles and the windscreens of three police vehicles deployed to maintain order at the palace.

 

Security operatives swiftly responded to the scene and arrested four suspects: Isyaku Uba of Koki Quarters, Abubakar Haruna of Daurawa Quarters, Umar Isah, and Hamisu Uba, both of Kantudu-Dala Quarters.

 

Normalcy was restored, while investigation into the motive and masterminds of the attack is ongoing.

 

In a separate development, the police also reported a case of suspected suicide involving one Fatima Mohammed, 25, of Haye village in Kano.

 

The report said the victim was found hanging from a rope in her matrimonial home on Sunday, at about 12:25 p.m.

 

Mai Anguwa Hamza, a local community head, reported the incident to Badawa Division, after which detectives visited the scene and evacuated the body to Sir Sunusi Specialist Hospital, where she was certified dead.

 

Police say investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has commenced.
