By: Zagazola Makama
Security operatives in Zamfara State have arrested a suspect, identified as Ashiru Jijji, for allegedly supplying soft drinks and other consumables to armed bandits operating in the state.
The arrest was carried out by members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards during a routine patrol operation in one of the bandit-prone areas, according to a security source who spoke under condition of anonymity.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was acting as a logistics supplier, ferrying drinks and other items to criminal hideouts in remote forest locations used by the bandits.
“We caught him in the act while he was transporting cartons of soft drinks, and other supplies. Upon interrogation, he confessed that the items were meant for a group of bandits he regularly serves,” the source said.
Ashiru Jijji is currently in custody and is expected to be handed over to relevant security agencies for further investigation and possible prosecution.
