It was gathered that the troop's operation which commenced from Monguno on Dec. 4, saw the troops clearing ISWAP settlements in Ngurnoa, Gumnari, Nairawa and Amburam villages in Monguno LGA.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region that the terrorists fled the cleared enclaves in a bid to avoid being killed by the troops.
The sources said that on arrival at AMBURAM, troops had contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a fire fight which forced them to retreat into a canal in disarray.
The troops reported that about 5 terrorists were neutralized. However, troops could not secure pictures of the neutralized terrorists as they sank inside the water.
Meanwhile, troops recovered 1 x GPMG and 4 x AK 47 magazines in a shallow portion of the water body.
One soldier was wounded during the encounter and has since been evacuated by air to 7 DMSH Maiduguri for further medical attention.
