Accidental Discharge Injures 14-Year-Old in Yenagoa

A 14-year-old girl, Blessing Denmark, has sustained a bullet wound on her right hand after an accidental discharge by a police officer on April 10, 2025, at about 11:20 a.m. in the Alamienyeseigha Market, Swali.

According to security sources from the Yenagoa, Blessing, a native of Southern Ijaw LGA but residing at Ox-Bow Lake, was selling periwinkles when Sgt. Akpan Friday, attached to the Special Protection Unit (SPU) base 6 in Port-Harcourt and on special duty with R&S Lotto Company in Swali, accidentally discharged his weapon.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Police Clinic in Yenagoa for medical treatment. The police swiftly mobilized a team to the scene, disarmed the suspect, and arrested him. Sgt. Akpan is currently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yenagoa.
