Four killed, two injured in armed herders’ attack in Benue – Police intensify manhunt

Four persons have been confirmed killed and two others injured following an attack by suspected armed herders on Akpete Village in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.
Zagazola gathered that the incident, which occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, was reported by a community leader, Hon. Adams Ogwola, who said the assailants stormed the village and opened fire on residents.
A police sources said following the report, a combined team of security operatives comprising the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Safer Highway Patrol, Operation Zenda, and conventional police officers was immediately deployed to the scene.
By the time the team arrived, the attackers had fled the area. However, the operatives began combing the surrounding bushes to track down the assailants.
The sources added that the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, has also dispatched an additional 20 PMF personnel to reinforce the ongoing operation and ordered all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to place their officers on red alert in response to recent security breaches in the state.
Meanwhile, the two injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital where they are receiving medical treatment.
