The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai has neutralised several terrorists during a coordinated air response to an attack on troops of the 120 Battalion under Sector 2 in Goniri, Yobe State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 0015 hours on Monday, when insurgents attempted to overrun the military location.
According to the sources, the terrorists infiltrated the Goniri position and engaged troops in a fierce battle after they breach the defensive perimeter.
“Upon receiving the distress call from troops on ground, the Air Component immediately scrambled fighter aircraft to provide close air support,” the sources said.
He explained that the aircraft swiftly acquired the hostile elements around the location and conducted precision strikes on identified terrorist positions.
“The fighter jets released two bombs on the insurgents’ positions with devastating accuracy, resulting in the elimination of at least 10 terrorists who had were trying to fled on sighting the fighting aircraft,” he added.
The prompt response of the Air Component significantly disrupted the terrorists’ attack and restored tactical advantage to our troops on ground,” he said.
