Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have arrested a suspected railway vandal and intercepted a vehicle conveying concealed railway sleepers believed to have been illegally removed from rail infrastructure in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the arrest was made at about 2:00 p.m. on July 8 following actionable intelligence received by troops of Sector 8, Sub-Sector 82.

The sources said the troops intercepted the suspect at the Zwall checkpoint while inspecting a vehicle transporting vandalised railway sleepers concealed among other items.

During the operation, one suspect was apprehended, while the driver and conductor of the vehicle abandoned it and fled the scene before they could be arrested.

The recovered railway sleepers and the intercepted vehicle have been taken into custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and determine the source of the vandalised materials.

Security authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to protect critical national infrastructure and crack down on economic sabotage across the country. Investigations are continuing.
