Army Commander visits Taraba community over farmer-herder clash, assures of intensified security

The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has undertaken a strategic operational visit to Bandawa community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

 

The visit, which took place on Monday, followed a recent clash between a farmer and a herder that led to the death of the farmer.

 

During a meeting with the District Head of Bandawa, Alhaji Yusau Seria, Brig.-Gen. Uwa condemned the killing and warned against any form of reprisal or individuals taking the law into their hands.

 

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to the protection of lives and property, assuring the community of increased military presence to forestall further clashes and restore public confidence.

 

“The safety and confidence of the people remain a top priority,” Uwa said. “We are here to reassure you that the Nigerian Army is committed to ensuring peace and stability. Law-abiding citizens must feel safe to go about their daily activities without fear.”

 

Responding, the District Head, Alhaji Seria, a retired military personnel, expressed appreciation for the timely intervention and lauded the commander for his proactive leadership.

 

“I am grateful for this visit and for the reassurance it brings to my people,” he said. “You have demonstrated genuine commitment to peace, and I assure you of my continued support, especially in the area of providing credible intelligence.”

 

Brig.-Gen. Uwa also held discussions with local stakeholders and community leaders, inspected troop deployments, and commended the troops on ground for their professionalism and vigilance.

 

He urged continued cooperation between the military and host communities to enhance peace and security in the region.
