Army troops intercept illegal oil shipment in Rivers, suspect handed over in Delta

Troops on Wednesday intercepted a speed boat conveying an estimated 1,500 litres of illegally refined AGO in the Abonnema Creeks, Akuku Toru LGA, Rivers State.

The interception, carried out around 0400hrs based on intelligence, led to the discovery of 25 sacks of the suspected product.

The occupants of the speed boat fled through the creeks on sighting the troops, and no arrest was made. The recovered substance was handled in accordance with operational protocols.

Meanwhile, in a related security development, a suspect previously arrested on March 12 in possession of a locally made pistol in Warri Metropolis, Delta State, was on March 18 handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution.

Military reiterated their commitment to ongoing operations against illegal oil bunkering and criminal activities in the Niger Delta region.
