By Zagazola Makama
A suspected logistics supplier to armed bandits has been arrested by operatives of the Kano State Police Command following credible intelligence that led to his interception in Bichi Local Government Area of the state.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was apprehended during a targeted operation after intelligence indicated he was transporting military-related items and ammunition believed to be destined for criminal elements operating within the Kano-Katsina axis.
Items recovered from the suspect include 109 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition for AK-47 rifles, military uniforms, military caps, a fake military identity card, and other logistics materials suspected to have been procured for bandits.
The sources said the arrest has disrupted a key supply chain supporting armed groups and prevented the items from reaching bandit camps, where they could have been used to facilitate attacks on communities.
The operation is considered a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle the logistics networks sustaining banditry and other violent crimes in the North-West.
Security officials commended the professionalism of the operatives involved in the operation as well as members of the public whose timely and credible intelligence made the arrest possible.
The development underscores the importance of intelligence-led policing and sustained community collaboration in the fight against insecurity, as authorities continue efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
