Joint Security Team Rescues Three Abducted AAU Students, Neutralises Two Kidnappers in Edo

A joint security team comprising operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army and the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) has rescued three abducted students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) during a coordinated operation in Edo State.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 6:00 a.m. on July 14 following sustained intelligence-led efforts to locate the victims and dismantle the kidnappers’ hideout.

The rescued students were identified as Favour Okoroje, 21; Precious Balogun, 19; and Praise Bagbalo, 18.

According to the sources, the joint team engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle during the rescue mission, resulting in the neutralisation of two suspected members of the gang.

The operatives also recovered three AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines and 39 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition from the scene.

Security sources said other members of the gang escaped into the surrounding bush with varying degrees of gunshot wounds, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The rescued students were safely evacuated from the area, stabilised and are currently receiving medical attention.

Police authorities described the operation as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in Edo State.

The joint security team has continued combing the surrounding forests and adjoining communities to track down the remaining members of the gang and recover additional weapons or exhibits linked to the suspects.
