Police in Benue State have rescued four passengers abducted by armed bandits along the Adoka-Ankpa Road, the Command confirmed.
According to sources, the victims were traveling in a Siena vehicle loaded with rice, from Naka to Kogi State on Feb. 8 at about 9:00 p.m., when they were ambushed and abducted into the bush by unknown assailants.
“The DPO Adoka promptly mobilized patrol teams with other tactical units, combed nearby bushes, and rescued the victims unhurt and without ransom. They were debriefed and allowed to continue their journey,” the police said.
Further intelligence from the State Investigation Department (SID) on Feb. 9 revealed that suspected armed Fulani herdsmen bandits are camping at Ordue Zungu Area in Moon Council Ward of Turan Jato-Aka, Kwande LGA. This axis was reportedly responsible for the killing of a unit commander and ten civilians last week.
Police noted that due to the terrain, where access requires crossing Moon Stream, the bandits are difficult to dislodge and are well-armed in large numbers. Authorities warned of a potential attack on several communities, including Anen, Tumahar in Ikyurav Area, Udedeku, Nyihemba, Acho’Ba in Moon, Wayar, and Nyuduu in Yaar communities.
“The release of police air units is recommended for two days to assist in dislodging the bandits,” the report added.
Benue State Command confirmed that the overall situation in the state remains relatively calm, with continuous monitoring and security patrols ongoing.
