Troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai have intercepted a consignment of illegally smuggled fuel along the Nigeria–Cameroon border in Borno State.
Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 7:30 p.m. on April 4 by troops of 3 Battalion following credible intelligence on the movement of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) across the border.
The troops conducted a raid across multiple crossing points, identified as Gate 1 to Gate 4, where suspected smugglers were reportedly moving the products.
On sighting the troops, the suspects abandoned the fuel and fled into nearby areas.
Items recovered during the operation include 19 jerricans of 30 litres each filled with suspected illegally smuggled AGO, as well as two carts used for transportation.
The troops subsequently returned to base at about 8:30 p.m. after the operation, which was described as successful and without incident.
