Burkinabe Army Destroys Large Terrorist Base in Nassougou, Neutralizes 20 Militants in Eastern Region

The Burkinabe army has successfully destroyed a significant terrorist base in Nassougou, located in the eastern part of the country, following a targeted operation on August 13, 2024. The base, where terrorists had set up extensive encampments with tents and solar installations, was completely obliterated by a series of airstrikes.
The operation began after intelligence and reconnaissance efforts identified a large group of terrorists gathering in the southern part of Nassougou, within Park W, on the morning of August 13. The militants, who had just emerged from their shelters hidden under the trees, were assembling for a morning gathering when the Burkinabe Air Force launched a decisive strike. A powerful missile was accurately deployed, effectively hitting the enemy positions.
The air operations did not end there. Over the following days, the Burkinabe military continued to monitor the area, mapping out the terrorist stronghold, which was cleverly camouflaged beneath the dense forest cover. The base consisted of tents, huts, and solar-powered installations, making it a significant operational hub for the terrorists.
In a carefully planned follow-up attack, airstrikes targeted key structures, including a hidden house where some of the militants were located. As the terrorists fled to what they believed were safer shelters under large trees, the Air Force launched another missile strike, causing massive destruction and neutralizing a large number of the militants.
Further strikes were carried out against surviving terrorists who attempted to regroup on the edge of the forest in an abandoned hamlet. A final missile strike eradicated this remaining group, ensuring no escape for the militants.
The operation continued into Monday, August 19, 2024, with additional airstrikes targeting enemy positions and a group of militants camped near a marigot. The relentless pursuit and destruction of these terrorist elements have been hailed as a significant victory in the fight against insurgency in Burkina Faso.
Meanwhile, ground operations in the Eastern Region have also yielded success. On August 16, 2024, the Mixed Marching Battalion ambushed and neutralized a group of approximately twenty terrorists who were active in the area. The operation resulted in the seizure of war equipment and vital logistics.
