CDS Condemns Killing of Hunters in Edo State
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Gwabin Musa on Friday strongly condemned the killing of hunters while they were in transit in Edo State. The tragic incident, which occurred on 28 March 2025, reportedly could have been avoided if the appropriate authorities had been alerted to ascertain the identities of the victims.
General Musa expressed deep sympathy with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the bereaved families affected by the loss. In his address, the CDS urged Nigerians to refrain from taking the law into their hands, stressing that any security concerns should be referred to the well-trained Nigeria Police, military, and other relevant security agencies.
The CDS further assured the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) would work closely with the police and other agencies to bring the perpetrators of the “dastardly act” to book. He called on local hunters and vigilante groups to register with the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), AFN, or any other agency mandated by law to regulate firearm possession. General Musa also appealed to all vigilante groups to always rely on the police for appropriate action.
General Musa concluded by urging calm and seeking citizens’ support for the security agencies, emphasizing that such institutions are committed to performing their constitutional duties with diligence.
