Chadian President visits Wadi Fira over intercommunal violence, sets up operational base

President of Chad, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, has arrived in Igot in the Wadi Fira Province following outbreaks of intercommunal violence that left several people dead.

 

Security sources said the president established a temporary operational headquarters in the area to directly oversee response measures and stabilisation efforts.

 

The sources disclosed that Wadi Fira has recently been affected by violent clashes between communities, resulting in multiple casualties and heightened tension across affected localities.

 

According to the sources, the president also presided over a high-level security meeting with a government delegation led by Limane Mahamat to assess the security situation and coordinate immediate response actions.

 

The meeting focused on restoring calm, preventing further escalation, and strengthening coordination among security and administrative authorities deployed to the region.
