COAS APPLAUDS NAOWA FOR STRENGTHENING THE HOME FRONT, CALLS FOR LEADERSHIP TO FOSTER PEACE AND UNITY
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has commended the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) for its outstanding contributions to maintaining stability and unity on the home front, particularly while their spouses are engaged in military duties. He urged the association's new leadership to uphold its inclusive legacy and work towards fostering peace and harmony.
Lt Gen Oluyede made these remarks today, December 4, 2024, during a courtesy visit by the President of NAOWA, Mrs Mernan Oluyede, and the association's executive members at the Army Headquarters Conference Room in Abuja.
The COAS praised NAOWA for its vital role in promoting unity, charity, and mutual support within the Nigerian Army community and beyond. Highlighting the importance of teamwork, he lauded the association's solidarity with Mrs Mariya Lagbaja during the challenging period following the passing of the former COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. He further assured NAOWA of his unwavering support in realizing its goals and advancing its mission.
During her visit, Mrs Mernan Oluyede congratulated Lt Gen Oluyede on his confirmation as the 24th Chief of Army Staff, acknowledging the Nigerian Army's pivotal role in NAOWA's accomplishments. She outlined her vision for the association, emphasizing unity, continuity, and service as the pillars of her leadership.
In her address, Mrs Oluyede appealed for continued support from the Nigerian Army to help NAOWA achieve its objectives. She reaffirmed the association’s dedication to promoting stability within military households and prayed for sustained peace and security across the nation.
Mrs Oluyede unveiled her mission statement, "Enhancing humanity through a steadfast commitment to unity, service, and the preservation of enduring legacies," and highlighted NAOWA’s focus on fostering stronger bonds among members, advancing humanitarian initiatives, and supporting military families.
She further detailed the association’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its members, driving measurable community impact, and creating a legacy of empowerment and service for future generations.
