COAS Charges Troops to Make Sacrifices for Peaceful, Secure Nigeria
...Reiterates Commitment to Troops’ Welfare
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has charged Nigerian Army personnel to remain committed to the peace and security of the nation, urging them to make necessary sacrifices in the interest of national unity and development.
Oluyede made the call on Tuesday while addressing troops during an operational visit to the 22 Armoured Brigade, the Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology (NAISET), and the Nigerian Army College of Education, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The COAS reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of troops and their families, stating that attention would be given to critical areas such as barracks infrastructure, education for soldiers’ children, healthcare services for their families, and the provision of essential equipment and kits to boost operational efficiency.
“The recent enhancement of the Ration Cash Allowance is aimed at motivating our troops to make greater sacrifices towards sustaining peace and unity in Nigeria,” Oluyede said, noting that development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity.
He urged the troops to eliminate all forms of criminality and ensure that no threats gain ground in Kwara State and beyond, adding that Nigerians are counting on the army to safeguard the country.
The army chief assured the troops of his unflinching support and emphasized that the leadership of the Nigerian Army remained resolute in providing all necessary backing for them to succeed in their assigned duties.
Earlier, Brig.-Gen. Ezra Barkins, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade; Brig.-Gen. Damian Dieke, Commandant of NAISET; and Brig.-Gen. Chidi Echebiwe, Provost of the Nigerian Army College of Education, briefed the COAS on the activities, achievements, and challenges facing their respective commands.
