The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has concluded a two-day operational tour of five Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the Borno South Senatorial District as part of sustained efforts to strengthen community engagement and public confidence in policing.

The tour, which commenced on Jan. 19, covered Bayo, Kwaya Kusar, Shani, Hawul and Biu LGAs.

During the visits, the police commissioner was received by local government chairmen, traditional and religious leaders, and other key community stakeholders.

The initiative reflects the Command’s renewed focus on inclusive policing, partnership with communities and proactive engagement as tools for preventing crime and sustaining peace in the state.
In recognition of the role of traditional institutions in peacebuilding and conflict resolution, CP Abdulmajid paid courtesy visits to the Emir of Biu and the Emir of Shani, where he held discussions on security, social cohesion and community support for law enforcement.

The visits, sources said, were aimed at strengthening mutual trust between the police and the people, especially in areas that have experienced years of insecurity and social disruption.

At the Biu Area Command and police divisions across the zone, the commissioner engaged officers and men of the Command in interactive sessions, commending them for their resilience, professionalism and commitment to duty under challenging conditions.

He urged the personnel to remain disciplined, resolute and to eschew corruption and all forms of unprofessional conduct, stressing that public trust is built on integrity, fairness and respect for human rights.

“The police must continue to earn the confidence of the people through transparent, accountable and people-oriented policing,” CP Abdulmajid said.

He said the Command would deploy additional manpower and logistical support to the area, while also enhancing training and retraining programmes to equip officers with the skills needed to address emerging and complex security threats.

The commissioner reassured residents of Borno State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, adding that the operational tour would be extended to other LGAs across the state in the coming weeks.

Community leaders who interacted with the police commissioner welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and necessary for improving security collaboration and restoring public confidence.

They called for sustained dialogue, youth engagement and joint problem-solving between security agencies and communities as part of long-term peacebuilding in the state.

Such confidence-building tours are critical in post-conflict environments like Borno, where rebuilding trust between security institutions and citizens remains a key pillar of lasting stability and development.
