Criminal Herders Destroy Farmlands in Two Plateau Communities, Troops Launch Manhunt

Troops of Sector 5 under Operation Enduring Peace have launched a manhunt for suspected criminal herders following the destruction of several farmlands in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops responded at about 3:00 p.m. on Aug. 6 to a distress report of farmland destruction in Kwatas Village.
On arrival at the scene, the troops discovered that a large number of farms in Kwatas and the neighbouring Wumat villages had been extensively damaged overnight by suspected criminal herders.
The extent of the destruction is yet to be fully assessed, but security sources described the damage as significant, with several cultivated farmlands affected.
The troops immediately commenced efforts to track the perpetrators, while investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the destruction.
Security sources said the operation forms part of sustained efforts by Operation Enduring Peace to curb recurring farmer-herder conflicts and protect farming communities across Plateau State.
The sources added that troops remain deployed in the affected communities to prevent further attacks and reassure residents as the search for the fleeing suspects continues.
