The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a suspected arms courier and recovered a cache of weapons in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
Security sources said the arrest was carried out at about 1:00 p.m. on June 12 following credible intelligence on the movement of arms and ammunition across state lines.
According to the sources, the suspect was intercepted while allegedly transporting weapons from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State to Funtua in Katsina State, where they were reportedly meant for onward delivery to criminal elements.
Items recovered from the suspect include three AK-47 rifles, four RPG tubes with warheads, and two empty magazines.
The sources further disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated the weapons were intended for a notorious bandit kingpin believed to be operating in Zamfara State.
The suspect is currently in DSS custody and undergoing further interrogation.
Security agencies said the arrest illustrates ongoing intelligence-led efforts to disrupt arms supply networks and weaken criminal operations across the North-West region.
