Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA Forward Operating Base (FOB) Jangeru have neutralised one terrorist and rescued two kidnapped victims during a contact operation along the Shinkafi–Moriki axis in Zamfara State.
Security sources said the encounter occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on June 12 at Kwanar Jollof in Shinkafi Local Government Area, while troops were returning from FOB Moriki after an operational visit by the incoming team commander.
According to the sources, troops were alerted through surveillance that terrorists were moving on motorcycles along the axis.
The patrol team immediately moved towards the location and made contact with the criminals.
During the ensuing engagement, one terrorist was neutralised, while two kidnapped victims were successfully rescued.
Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, four extra magazines, one Baofeng communication radio, one wristwatch, one bandolier, ₦500 cash, assorted charms, and two motorcycles.
However, the operation recorded the loss of one soldier, who was killed in action. His remains were evacuated to the 1 Medical Battalion Centre (1 BMC), Gusau.
Military authorities said efforts were ongoing to exploit the area and deny terrorists freedom of movement along the axis.
They reaffirmed commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements in Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
