EIGS Executes Nigerien Soldier Captured in Sakoira Attack as Multiple people remained jn captivitiy
The Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS) has executed a Nigerien soldier who was taken captive during its attack on Sakoira, Niger Republic, on February 19.
In its latest propaganda bulletin released on Friday, the terrorist group announced the execution, bringing the total number of Nigerien casualties from the attack to eight.
The group had initially killed seven soldiers during the assault before capturing the deceased.
The Sakoira attack was part of a series of coordinated offensives by extremist groups in the Sahel region, targeting security forces and civilians.
Meanwhile, multiple individuals, including security personnel and civilians, remain in captivity following separate incidents linked to armed groups.
Among them are: Five soldiers abducted by Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) in Ekadey on February 28, former OPVN CEO, Alassane Souleymane, Four Moroccan nationals kidnapped along the Dori-Téra axis, Eva Grezmatcher, abducted in Agadez as well as the Mayor of Bilma and three of his aides.
