A 22-year-old man, Kingsley Uwem Elijah, has been arrested in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State for allegedly impersonating a soldier and causing public disturbance.
Sources familiar with the incident told Zagazola Makama on Thursday that the suspect, a native of Afia Nsit Village in Eket, was apprehended on July 2 at about 11:15 a.m. following a tip-off from a concerned resident.
Elijah was reportedly causing a disturbance in Ikot Okudom, Okon Village, while dressed and presenting himself as a personnel of the Nigerian Army.
Upon arrest, he claimed to have enlisted in the military in 2019 but had been absent without official leave (AWOL) since 2021. However, upon verification by the Joint Task Force (JTF), he was confirmed to be an impostor.
Items recovered from the suspect include one fake Nigerian Army identity card, three mobile phones, four ATM cards, and three SIM cards.
He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.
