Farmer-herder clash claims one life, injures eight in Borno

 A farmer-herder clash has claimed one life and left eight others injured in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno.

 

Zagazola Makama  gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday evening at Modukoruri village when herders allegedly trespassed into a beans and millet farm belonging to one Modu Fannami, 55, and refused to leave after being cautioned.

 

The situation escalated after villagers mobilised to the scene in support of the farmer, leading to a violent confrontation.

 

During the clash, one Modu Zarami, 38, was fatally shot with arrows on the neck and stomach, while another, Mallumta Kyari, 28, sustained deep machete cuts. Seven other villagers suffered minor injuries.

 

Zarami was confirmed dead on arrival at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Gubio, while Kyari was later referred to the General Hospital, Maiduguri, for advanced treatment.

 

The seven others with minor injuries were treated and discharged.

 

Security forces and Community leaders later restored calm in the area, while efforts are ongoing to trace those responsible for the attack.
