A devastating fire outbreak has destroyed the popular Kariyari Market in Lantewa Ward of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, leaving in its wake extensive damage to properties and livelihoods.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the inferno affected more than 1,600 households, many of whom lost all their belongings in the blaze.
“As we speak, relevant authorities are working to uncover what triggered the fire incident. This is a huge loss to our people,” said a source.
Eyewitnesses and victims expressed deep sorrow over the incident, appealing to the government and non-governmental organisations to come to their aid.
They said the destruction has left many families without shelter or means of livelihood.
Efforts are ongoing by emergency services to assess the damage and provide relief to those affected.
