Five killed in armed herders’ attack on civilians in Benue

Five people, including a police personnel and four civilians, have been killed in an attack allegedly carried out by armed herders along the Ayilamo–Audu road in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 11, according to a military situation report.

Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), deployed in Ayilamo, responded to information about the attack in conjunction with personnel of the Nigeria Police.

On arrival, the security forces found the bodies of one police personnel and four civilians, who had been killed during the attack.

The remains of the victims were subsequently deposited at the morgue of Ayilamo Hospital.

Following the incident, troops dominated the general area and commenced patrols to prevent further attacks and restore security along the affected route.

The killing has further heightened concerns over the safety of residents and commuters along vulnerable roads in Logo LGA, where armed attacks continue to pose a serious threat to civilians.

Security forces are expected to intensify patrols and take decisive action against those responsible for the killings.
