Four Cattle Killed in Attack by Militia in Plateau’s Mangu, Troops Move to Prevent Reprisal

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have moved to prevent a fresh outbreak of violence in Plateau State following the killing of four cattle belonging to a Fulani herder in Mangu Local Government Area.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 5:58 p.m. on Aug. 2, when troops of Sector 8, Sub-Sector 81 deployed at Gyambwas, responded to a distress call over an attack on cattle belonging to one Sanusi Abdullahi.
The attack reportedly occurred at a riverside between Gaude and Aloghom villages in Mangu LGA, where the cattle had been taken to drink water.
On arrival, the troops discovered that four cows had been killed, with parts of the carcasses already butchered and taken away by the attackers, who fled before security personnel reached the scene.
Security sources said the attackers were suspected to be Mwaghavu youths, although investigations are ongoing to establish those responsible.
In response, the troops immediately initiated engagements with critical community stakeholders to calm tensions and forestall any retaliatory attacks that could further escalate the fragile security situation in the area.
Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators as security patrols have been intensified across the affected communities.
