GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING 3 ARMOURED DIVISION AND OPERATION SAFE HEAVEN ESTABLISH STEP UP HEADQUARTERS IN MANGU

 

The new General Officer Commanding 3 Division and STF OPERATION SAFE HAVEN has redeployed to the troubled area of Mangu less than 24 hours of assumption of command for on the spot assessment to be able to take appropriate measures to restore normalcy. 

 

On arrival, the Commander was greeted by an agitated crowd but the situation was put under control. The reinforcement team from Jos with MRAPs deployed immediately to dominate hotspots and to protect vulnerable communities. 

 

The patrol teams during follow on operations professionally deterred further attacks on 2 vulnerable villages and recovered 5 rifles and ammunition during the operations. 

 

The Plateau State Government Delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the Governor also paid an assessment visit. 

 

The delegation which included the SA Security to His Excellency,  Brigadier General Shipi retired, Attorney General as well as the Chief Security Officer to the Governor pledged the State Government’s support in bringing lasting peace to the affected areas. 

 

After thorough threat analysis and measures needed to forestall reprisal attacks, the imposition of curfew became necessary. 

 

During curfew enforcement, 36 curfew offenders were arrested in the wee hours of the night but were released after the GOC’s admonishment. Situation is now under control and engagement with key stakeholders initiated until total normalcy is restored.
