GOC visits Plateau community after killing of herder, seven cattle

The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Maj. Gen. W.M. Dangana, has visited the scene of the recent killing of a herder and seven cattle at Jong/Nyerwai village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Dangana arrived at the headquarters of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace, in Barkin Ladi at about 1:59 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, where he was received by the Commander, Sector 4 OPEP.
The visit was undertaken as an on-the-spot assessment of the location where the herder and seven cattle were killed on Sept. 9.
During the visit, the GOC expressed sympathy to members of the affected community over the incident and urged continued restraint to prevent the situation from escalating into further violence.
He particularly commended Fulani leaders in Barkin Ladi for their restraint and decision to discourage members of the community from embarking on reprisal attacks.
The development comes amid heightened tensions in parts of Plateau State following a series of attacks involving farming and herding communities.
Security authorities have continued to emphasise the need for communities to resist retaliatory violence, warning that reprisal attacks often produce fresh casualties and deepen an already fragile security situation.
The visit was completed without incident, while troops remain deployed across vulnerable locations in the area to prevent further attacks and maintain peace.
