Troops discover corpse of missing farmer in Mangu as residents suspects herders behind killing

Troops of Sector 8, Sub-Sector 81, Gyambwas, have discovered the remains of a 56-year-old farmer, Mr Geoffrey Gumut, who was earlier reported missing at Kikyuau village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The troops responded at about 6:35 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, following a report that Gumut had gone missing.
The soldiers, working alongside local residents, immediately commenced search operations across the general area in an effort to locate the missing farmer.
During the search, the victim’s body was discovered on his farm. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear and are currently subject to investigation.
Residents in Mangu suspects that the killing was orchestrated by Fulani herders who usually invade their farms with their livestock.
Keystone Mangu Division was contacted for further necessary action, while security personnel have commenced efforts to establish what happened to the farmer and identify those responsible.
The discovery has further heightened security concerns in parts of Mangu, where recent attacks and killings have increased tensions especially between farming and herders communities.
Troops remain active in the general area as investigations continue and efforts are made to prevent further attacks and possible retaliatory violence.
