Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State on Thursday met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where they discussed security challenges, economic development and governance issues in the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

According to the statement, the closed-door meeting held shortly after the President’s engagement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Progressive Governors Forum focused largely on improving security operations and strengthening the state’s economy.

It said the governor briefed the President on the security situation in Zamfara, highlighting progress made so far while also identifying areas requiring further intervention to consolidate peace in the state.

The statement added that President Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting Zamfara State through enhanced troop deployment and provision of necessary operational equipment to improve security outcomes.

It further noted that discussions also covered the state’s economic growth, particularly improvements in internally generated revenue, as well as the need for greater federal support to stimulate local industries and job creation.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing support, which includes exploring federal resources and programmes that can be deployed to strengthen local industries and create employment opportunities in Zamfara,” the statement added.

The meeting also touched on political developments in the state ahead of future electoral cycles.
