Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has been selected to accompany President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the 20th Heads of State and Government Summit of the Group of 20 (G20), scheduled to hold from Nov. 22 to 23 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Gusau by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mr Sulaiman Bala Idris.
Idris said the governor is part of a team of six state chief executives chosen to join the President’s delegation to the high-level global summit.
According to him, other governors selected for the trip include those of Osun, Plateau, Gombe, Katsina, Niger, Enugu and Nasarawa States.
He explained that all G20 member states would be represented at the summit, which will also host 16 guest countries and six nations representing regional economic blocs across Africa, the Caribbean and East Asia.
“The leaders’ summit is the culmination of the G20 process, reflecting the work done throughout the year through Ministerial Meetings, Working Groups and Engagement Groups,” he said.
Idris added that the two-day summit would feature three sessions covering trade, development finance, global debt, climate change, food systems, just energy transition, critical minerals, decent work and the role of artificial intelligence in development.
The spokesperson said Gov. Lawal’s inclusion was a recognition of his administration’s reforms and the state’s growing relevance in national and international engagements.
