Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have recovered and safely disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara.

The operation followed credible intelligence received by troops of Sector 2, who swiftly mobilised to the area and identified the explosive device.

The troops secured the location to prevent casualties among motorists and other road users before an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team safely disposed of the IED.

Following the operation, the troops intensified patrols around the area to deny terrorists freedom of movement and prevent further attacks along the route.

The development highlights the persistent threat posed by the use of IEDs by terrorist groups against civilians and security forces in the North West.

The Joint Task Force urged residents to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious objects, movements or activities to security agencies.

It said timely information from members of the public remained critical to preventing attacks, protecting lives and enhancing security across the Joint Operations Area.

The statement was signed by Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma.
