A female police officer was injured and a riot gun snatched when unidentified gunmen attacked officers on duty at Sango junction in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday evening.
Sources said that the police officers, from Sango Division, were manning their regular pin-down point around 8:00 p.m. when six assailants, riding on two motorcycles, launched a surprise attack, firing sporadically at the team.
Inspector Rose Sunday, a traffic officer attached to the division, was struck by pellets on her right chest during the gunfire while directing traffic. She was immediately rushed to Hamdala Hospital, Agbowo, where 12 pellets were extracted from her body. She is currently responding well to treatment.
During the attack, a riot gun issued to Inspector Omoregbe James, was forcibly taken by the attackers, who fled the scene on their motorbikes.
