Police neutralize notorious bandit in Katsina, rescue five injured kidnap victims

 

Police operatives in Katsina State have neutralized a notorious bandit and rescued five kidnap victims who sustained gunshot injuries during an attack on two villages in Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state.

 

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen in Katsina.

 

He said the attack occurred on May 22 at about 10:15 p.m. when armed bandits invaded Unguwar Lado and Karo villages.

 

“Upon receipt of the distress call, a team of operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Malumfashi responded promptly and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel.

 

“In the course of the operation, one notorious bandit, Audu Kushin, a male of Tsamiyar Maigoro village, was neutralized,” he said.

 

Aliyu added that five kidnap victims were injured during the attack and had since been evacuated to the General Hospital Malumfashi for treatment.

 

The victims were identified as Labaran Tijjani (25), Mai Unguwa Usman (45), Iliya Hamisu (45), Yahaya Dahiru (25), and Abdurahaman Umar (25).

 

The PPRO said efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

 

He quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bello Shehu, as commending the operatives for their swift response and urging them to sustain the tempo of operations against banditry and kidnapping.

 

He also called on members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid ongoing security efforts.
